The Charities
For many years Debbie and I have supported the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. During lockdown I worked on a small collections of paintings that I donated to RMCC. Some of these works were sold while others were hung in the Marsden Hospital. I was particularly struck by a letter I received from a regular chemo patient who told me what a difference it makes to spend time surrounded by original paintings. This inspired me to paint more to benefit Cancer Research.
Today, in the UK, someone is diagnosed with cancer every 90 seconds. That’s more than 1,000 people, every day, hearing the devastating news they have cancer. The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money for The Royal Marsden, to save the lives of people affected by cancer everywhere.
One in two of us will receive a diagnosis in our lifetime. Cancer touches every family, every generation, and every community, which means we need breakthroughs in cancer research more than ever before.
The Charity supports pioneering cancer research that enables patients to receive world-leading treatment and support, from diagnosis through to treatment and beyond. Working closely with clinicians and researchers, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity helps accelerate the translation of innovative approaches into clinical practice to improve the lives of people affected by cancer across the UK and around the world today, while driving progress for the future.

With four grandchildren delivered by Mark Johnson the founder of the Borne Foundation I became aware of the importance of understanding the causes of premature births and the work that he and his team are doing to prevent this.
The Borne Foundation is a UK medical research charity dedicated to ending premature birth through pioneering research. Every year, around 15 million babies are born too soon worldwide, making premature birth the leading cause of death in children under five. Many babies who survive face lifelong health challenges, while countless families experience the emotional and physical impact of premature birth.
Borne brings together world-leading scientists, clinicians and researchers to better understand why premature birth happens and to develop new ways to predict, prevent and treat it. By funding innovative research, fostering international collaboration and supporting the next generation of pregnancy researchers, Borne is accelerating discoveries that have the potential to transform maternity care and improve outcomes for mothers and babies around the world.
Every artwork purchased through this auction will directly support this vital work. Funds raised will help drive forward groundbreaking research that seeks to answer some of the biggest questions in pregnancy and childbirth, bringing us closer to a future where fewer families experience the trauma of premature birth.
Borne believes that every baby deserves the best possible start in life. With the support of partners and generous donors, the charity is helping to advance life-changing research that offers hope to families today and creates healthier futures for generations to come.
